Tora Coastal Walk
Day three

DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY: MODERATE
TIME DISTANCE: 3.5 - 4 hrs
SHEARERS QUARTERS TO WHAKAPATA COTTAGE
The direct route from the ‘Shearers Quarters’ to the Whakapata Cottage will take approx 3½hrs-4½hrs. The first third of the walk is a very gentle easy walk that follows the picturesque Oterei River river valley through open farmland. The second third of the walk is a moderate up-hill walk through native bush - we have labelled approximately 50 species of native plants within this stand of generating native bush. The last leg of the walk is an easy, mainly downhill, walk back to the starting point – the ‘Whakapata Cottage’.
Just before the last leg of day 3 there is the option to do a 1 hour return walk up to the ‘Bugler’. This is a moderate to difficult walk but is well worth the effort for some stunning 360 degree views of the East Coast of the South Wairarapa. The third day will bring you back to your starting point - The Whakapata Cottage! Most groups will arrive back to the Whakapata Cottage by 3pm. Please be aware that your luggage will not be back to the Whakapata Cottage until approx 1pm. If you need to leave before this time please let Jenny and Chris know at night 3 so they can ensure your luggage is back to the Whakapata Cottage on time.
Most groups are ready to depart back to civilisation by mid-afternoon (1400 - 1500hr)
